Privacy notice

The short version

  • ✓We do not sell your data, and we never share it with advertising or marketing companies.
  • ✓Your watch history stays on your phone. To find chapters, the app sends us the video on screen, never your account or your history.
  • ✓You do not need an account to use the app or this website. Signing in is only for voting on the community board.
  • ✓You can download or delete what we hold about you at any time.

Who we are

PureStream for YouTube is made by S6 Studios Pty Ltd (ACN 702 723 000, ABN 29 702 723 000), a small Australian company in Adelaide, South Australia. In this notice, "we" and "us" mean S6 Studios Pty Ltd. We decide how and why your personal data is used, which makes us the controller of it under data protection laws such as the GDPR.

This notice covers the PureStream for YouTube Android app, however you installed it; this website at purestreamapp.com/youtube, including the community board; and emails you send us. The rest of purestreamapp.com is about PureStream for podcasts and has its own privacy policy. Google, YouTube and the app stores have their own policies too.

Questions, or anything you want us to do with your data: support@purestreamapp.com.

In the app

What the app sends us

To find chapters, captions and lyrics for the video you are watching, the app sends our servers that video's ID and title. Like any internet request, this also carries your phone's IP address, and the app includes its version number. We use these only to send back the information for that video and to keep the service running and secure. We do not link them to you, and we do not keep a history of what you watch. We count how often each video is looked up, with nothing that identifies you, so we know which videos to map first.

What stays on your phone

Your PureStream watch history, skip counts, stats and settings are stored only on your phone. They are deleted when you uninstall PureStream or clear its storage. If your phone backs up apps to your Google account, that backup may keep a copy until it is replaced or deleted.

Permissions

  • Display over other apps lets PureStream show its overlay on top of YouTube. It does not let PureStream see what is on your screen.
  • Accessibility service. Android lets an accessibility service see and act on what is on screen. PureStream uses it only in the YouTube app: to tell which video is playing, to jump to chapters and skip segments, and, if you turn it on, to tap the Skip Ad button for you. What it sees stays on your phone, apart from the video ID and title described above.
  • Notification access. Android gives this access to all your notifications. PureStream reads only YouTube's media playback notification, to know what is playing and how far through it is. It ignores every other notification, and does not store or send any of them.

Contributor mode (optional)

Contributor mode is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, the app also sends what it detects about the videos you watch, such as where segments start and end, along with your device model, Android version, app version and a random identifier for your installation. We use this to improve chapters for everyone. You can turn it off at any time in the app's settings.

Bug reports (optional)

When you report a problem from the app, we receive what you write, your device model, Android version, app version and the app's recent logs, and your email address if you give it. We use them only to fix the problem and reply to you.

Plus purchases

Plus is sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment and tells us about the order, such as the product, country, price and whether it is active. We never see your card or bank details. So that Plus buyers' votes count twice on the community board, our app servers pass the email address on a Plus purchase to this website, which keeps only a one-way code made from it (see below).

No advertising

The app shows no ads, and we do not share app data with advertising or marketing companies.

On this website

Visiting

You do not need an account to use this website. Cloudflare delivers the pages and protects them from attacks, which means handling request details such as your IP address, your browser and the page you asked for. Our site's code limits how often one IP address can make requests, and records errors, with any search terms in the address removed. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It uses no cookies, does not follow you across other sites, and shows us only totals. When you download the app, we count the download by version and day, without recording who downloaded it.

Signing in to vote

When voting is open, you sign in with your Google account. Google tells us your Google account ID, email address and a link to your profile picture. We store these, with when you first and last signed in, and your votes. We do not store your name. While you are signed in, your browser loads your profile picture from Google. We use all this to count one vote per person and to show you which account is signed in. Other visitors see only vote totals.

Plus votes

If you bought Plus with the same email address you sign in with, your votes count twice. The website never stores Plus buyers' email addresses, only a one-way code made from each one with a secret key. We make the same code from your sign-in email and compare the two.

Ideas and feedback

An idea has a title and optional details. If you are signed in when you send one, we keep your email address with it while we review it. If we approve it, it goes on the public board without your name or email address. If we decline it, we delete it.

Feedback is what you write, plus the email address and screenshot you choose to add, if any. Before we store a screenshot, we remove the hidden details some images carry, such as where and on what device they were taken. The idea and feedback forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to keep out spam. It loads only when you start filling in a form, and checks details of your browser and connection, including your IP address.

Where it is stored

Accounts, votes, ideas, feedback and screenshots are stored by Cloudflare in the European Union. Cloudflare's network runs worldwide, so your requests are handled at a data centre near you. We look after the site from Australia.

Cookies and storage

This website uses no advertising or tracking cookies. Everything it stores in your browser is needed for something you asked for, so there is no cookie banner.

We do not make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use a few providers, who handle it only on our instructions:

  • Cloudflare, Inc. hosts this website and its data, protects it from attacks and spam, and counts visits.
  • Google provides Sign in with Google, and sells Plus and delivers the app through Google Play. Google is responsible for what it collects from you directly, under its own privacy policy.
  • Our hosting providers run the servers the app talks to. The status page shows where they are.
  • Our email provider runs our support mailbox.

If you get the app from another app store, that store handles your download under its own terms. We may also share personal data if the law requires it, or to protect people's safety or our legal rights. If S6 Studios Pty Ltd or PureStream is ever sold, the buyer would have to keep the promises in this notice.

Where your data goes

We are based in Australia. Website data is stored in the European Union, and our app servers run in Europe and Australia. Our providers also process data in the United States and elsewhere. When your data leaves the European Union or the United Kingdom, it is protected by our providers' standard contractual clauses, or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where they are certified under it, and by the safeguards described under Keeping it safe.

How long we keep it

We delete data on this schedule without being asked. Our systems do the website's deletions every day.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to show you a copy of your personal data, correct it, delete it, give it to you in a form you can move elsewhere, stop or limit using it, or stop using it where we rely on your consent. It is free, and you do not have to give a reason.

  • If you signed in to vote, Download my data and Delete my data are on the community page while you are signed in.
  • For anything else, email support@purestreamapp.com from the address the data is linked to. We reply within one month, and may ask you to confirm it is you.
  • Delete your data explains, step by step, how to delete data in each place it can be.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us, and we will try to put it right. You can also complain to the privacy regulator where you live, such as the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the UK Information Commissioner's Office or your local data protection authority in the EU.

Children

PureStream is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you think a child under 13 has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

Keeping it safe

Every connection to the app servers and this website is encrypted, and our providers encrypt stored data. Only the two of us who run PureStream can reach personal data, through company accounts with single sign-on. Plus buyers' email addresses are kept only as one-way codes, screenshots have their hidden details removed, and data is deleted on the schedule above. No system is perfectly secure, so if a breach is likely to affect you, we will tell you and the regulators as the law requires.

Changes to this notice

When we change this notice, we will post the new version here with a new version number and date. If a change matters, such as collecting a new kind of data or using it in a new way, we will say so on this website and in the app before it takes effect.

Terms of use

These terms include the end-user licence agreement for the PureStream for YouTube app.

Our agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and S6 Studios Pty Ltd (ACN 702 723 000), "we" or "us". They cover the PureStream for YouTube app and this website, including the community board. By installing or using the app, or using the community board, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use PureStream. Our privacy notice explains how we handle your data.

Who can use PureStream

You must be at least 13 to use PureStream. If you are not old enough to agree to a contract where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.

Your licence to use the app

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use PureStream on Android devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. We, and the people we license from, keep all other rights in the app, the chapter and segment data behind it, this website, and the PureStream and S6 Spectra names and logos. The licence ends if you break these terms.

What you must not do

  • Host, mirror, repackage, sell or share the app, its installation file (APK) or a changed version of it. Please share a link to our download page or an official store listing instead.
  • Change, decompile or reverse engineer the app, except where the law lets you do so despite this term.
  • Get around Plus, or the free plan's monthly allowance.
  • Scrape, bulk-download or reuse our chapter, caption or lyric data, use our servers other than through the app, or put unreasonable load on them.
  • Use PureStream in a way that breaks the law or anyone else's rights.

Getting the app and updates

Get PureStream only from our download page or a store listed there. Copies from anywhere else may have been changed, or be unsafe. The download page shows how to check your copy is genuine. If you get the app from a store, that store's own terms also apply to how it is delivered and paid for.

We release updates to fix problems and to improve or change features. Some updates may be needed to keep using PureStream, and older versions may stop working with our servers.

YouTube and Google

PureStream is independent, and is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by YouTube or Google. YouTube, Google and Google Play are trademarks of Google LLC. PureStream works alongside the official YouTube app. It does not change YouTube, and it does not block or remove YouTube's ads. You still need to follow YouTube's own terms when you use YouTube, and changes YouTube makes to its app may stop some PureStream features working.

The free plan and Plus

Free plan. PureStream skips parts of up to 100 videos for you each calendar month. A video counts once, however many parts of it are skipped, and the count starts again on the first day of each month. The allowance is only for skipping: chapters, captions and lyrics do not count towards it.

Plus adds unlimited skips, Lyrics+, Captions+, early access to new features and double votes on the community board. It is not on sale yet. When it is, it will be sold through Google Play, as a single Lifetime payment or a Monthly subscription. Google Play shows the price in your currency, including any tax, before you buy.

  • Monthly renews automatically each month until you cancel. Cancel any time in the Play Store: tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Plus stays on until the end of the month you have paid for. We will tell you before a price rise applies to your subscription, so you can cancel first if you want to.
  • Lifetime means for as long as we offer PureStream for YouTube, not for your lifetime. If we ever stop offering it, we will tell you well ahead of time.

Refunds

Google Play refunds within 48 hours of purchase. After that, email us at support@purestreamapp.com and we will refund anyone who asks. We would love to hear what did not work for you, but you never have to explain. This never limits your rights under consumer law, including the right to cancel you have in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

The community board

You own the ideas and feedback you send us. You give us a free, worldwide, permanent licence to use them, to publish ideas on the board, and to edit them for length and clarity. You agree that we can publish ideas without naming you. Please send only things you have the right to share, and leave out other people's personal information.

Be kind. Do not post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexual or violent, spam or advertising, or other people's private information. We review every idea before it goes on the board, and we may decline, edit or remove anything, or remove votes and accounts, that breaks these rules or is fake or duplicated. If we remove something you sent, we will tell you why, unless it is spam or the law stops us. To report something on the board, or to ask us to look again at a decision, email support@purestreamapp.com.

The board shows what people would like, not a promise. We decide what to build, and when.

Chapters, captions and lyrics

Chapters, skippable segments, captions and lyrics are put together automatically from many sources. They can be wrong or incomplete, and PureStream may skip something you wanted to see; Undo is always one tap away. Captions and lyrics are for following along with the video you are watching. Please do not copy or republish them. The videos, and the words and music in them, belong to their owners.

The service

We work hard to keep PureStream running, and the status page shows how it is doing, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, pause or stop features, or the service, for example when YouTube changes its app. If we stop PureStream for YouTube altogether, we will give you notice first.

Your consumer rights and our liability

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes those guarantees, or the rights consumer law gives you where you live. If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to take reasonable care.

Otherwise, and only as far as the law allows: PureStream is provided as it is; we are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by YouTube, Google, your device or anything else outside our reasonable control; and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us for Plus in the 12 months before the claim, and US$50.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

Ending this agreement

You can stop using PureStream at any time by uninstalling it. The Delete your data page shows how to remove what we hold. We may suspend or end your use of PureStream, or of the community board, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it. Terms that by their nature should last after this agreement ends, such as those on liability and the law that applies, will continue to apply.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We will post the new version here with a new version number and date. If a change affects you in a significant way, we will tell you on this website and in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree with a change, you can stop using PureStream and cancel Monthly before it applies. If you keep using PureStream after that, the new terms apply.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia, and the courts of South Australia can hear disputes about them. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. Please talk to us first: most problems can be fixed with an email.

Everything else

These terms and the privacy notice are the whole agreement between you and us about PureStream. If a court finds part of them cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. We may transfer this agreement to someone who takes over PureStream, and your rights under it will not be reduced. You may not transfer it without our agreement.
