A note from us

Hi, we are Nigel and Shaya

We love learning. We are also both neurodiverse, and staying focused through a long video has never come easily to us. A sponsor read, a subscribe reminder or a rambling intro is often all it takes to lose the thread.

So we built the tool we wished we had: one that clears away the clutter and keeps you with the part you came for. We hope it helps you focus, learn more and get a little of your time back, and makes the internet feel a bit less enshittified along the way.

There is no big company behind this. It is just the two of us at S6 Studios in Adelaide, and you. Our S6 Spectra engine costs real money to run, and Plus is how we keep it going. We priced it so it never feels like another subscription.

We pull in data from several sources: the creator's own chapters, timestamps in the description, detection on your phone, captions and lyric sources. Inside S6 Spectra, separate pipelines consolidate and fine-tune chapters, skippable segments, speakers and lyrics.

What comes out is one clean feed, made once and shared with everyone who watches that video next. Nothing gets worked out twice, which saves energy. And less time hunting for the good part means less time on screens.

Questions

Where do the chapters come from?
The app detects what you are watching, then our S6 Spectra analysis works out chapter boundaries, content breaks, audio cues and a whole lot more to make each video easier to move through. In short, we do the heavy lifting so you can just watch and enjoy. We want to be open about how we got here. We have always used ad blockers and skip tools, but they were often flaky or awkward to use. So we got to work building something we would love and use ourselves. PureStream is not about ads. It is about getting you to the part you want to listen to, learn from or enjoy. Skipping ads is a nice side benefit.
Does it work with YouTube Premium?
Yes. PureStream works with free YouTube and with YouTube Premium, and some features are designed with each one in mind. With Premium, PureStream works even better. You get chapters on most videos you watch, even when the creator has not added any. On free YouTube, a few extras make everyday watching smoother: • Repeat play, to loop a video or a chapter. • A live queue, so you can line up what is next without needing Premium. • Auto-tap for the Skip Ad button, so it is pressed for you the moment it appears. This does not block or bypass YouTube ads. They still play as normal, you just do not have to reach for the button.
Is PureStream made by YouTube?
No. PureStream is an independent app made by S6 Studios Pty Ltd, a small Australian company, and it is not affiliated with YouTube or Google. It works alongside the official YouTube app and does not modify it.
What permissions does it need?
Display over other apps, so the overlay can sit on top of YouTube. Accessibility service, so PureStream knows which video is playing and can jump to a chapter for you. Notification access, to read what is playing from the media controls.
What data do you collect?
To match each video to the right chapters, the app sends us the video it is showing: its ID and title. Like any internet request, that comes with your IP address, which we do not link to you. Your watch history, stats and settings stay on your phone. We never sell your data or share it with marketing or advertising companies. Our privacy notice has the full details.
What is the difference between Lyrics and Lyrics+?
Lyrics is free for everyone. Lyrics+ gives you cleaned-up lyrics synced word by word, with a more polished experience, and it is where new lyric features arrive first.
What about Captions and Captions+?
Captions is free and shows plain lines, with a marker when the speaker changes. Captions+ adds names and colours for each speaker, places lines on their side of the screen, and adds a timeline of who talked when.
